Antigo Vice-Presidente dos Estados Unidos, Al Gore é desde há muito grande defensor do meio ambiente. Escreveu ainda Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit e criou o documentário An Inconvenient Truth. Vive com a mulher, Tipper, em Nashville, no Tennessee.
